About Us
The Jin-Ju Wushu Academy was founded by its chief instructor, Jin-Ju Liu, in 1997, with the purpose of promoting multicultural awareness and provide opportunities for community health improvement. The academy has held courses and performances across Canberra, including the Australian Defence Force Academy and the Multicultural Festival for over a decade with this in mind.
Jin-Ju Liu was born in Tianjin, China. She first started training in Wushu at the tender age of four, and was recruited by the Chinese national team at eight. Since entering the competitive arena at age twelve, Ms. Liu has won 38 national championships and 22 international titles during her illustrious career. Ms. Liu became one of the youngest head coaches of the Chinese national team at the age of twenty-four.
Ms. Liu was hand-picked to represent China and travelled to various countries for exchanges and performances. Former President of the International Olympic Committee, Mr. Samaranch, even travelled to China personally in 1989 to observe her performance.
Ms. Liu settled in Canberra in 1996, and has since continued her career in instructing wushu. Her students include both children and adults, and have won numerous awards in various state and national competitions.
